Many moons ago, when I first started out on my ceramics journey, I went through a bit of a 'Green Man' phase. They are just about the first things I made, so they've lasted well! The individual leaves are all handmade and attached one by one.
The above is obviously not a Green Man - he is my first and only attempt at sculpting a head; he now sits on top of a large pot in the shade of the trees, and gets more worn and mossy with each passing year.
The 'Green Man' is generally seen as a symbol of re-birth, representing the cycle of growth which arrives with each Spring.
Is there a re-birth going on in your garden?
My sister would love these there just her kind of style ;-) dee x

ReplyDeleteThese sculptures are amazing, I have always enjoyed looking at old churches and have seen many different interpretations of the Green Man, all of them fascinating.

There is a definite rebirth in our garden! The lawn is in desperate need of a cut and the lawnmower refuses to start. Oh to be a mechanic, life would be so much easier.
ReplyDeleteHi, via hillside cottage from another potter :-)
ReplyDeleteI got really interested in the legends of the Green Man when I studied it in an early literature course, I love that he carries a branch of holly!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful garden. Nice controlling. Thanks for sharing.
