I know - how cute is this little chap? Every year grey seals breed around the Norfolk coastline from late November onwards. By New Year there are large numbers of young colonies scattered about the beaches.
But some pups, like this little one, make their way up into the dunes and lie in the path of the onlookers. You have to keep your distance - I obviously didn't get this close - I used the zoom thingy!
The number of new pups are counted each day and chalked up on a blackboard in the carpark. It has been absolutely freezing each time we have been but it is always well worth it. We then go for a hot drink and a big breakfast at a local caffe to warm up.
Do you have any Christmas Traditions which are personal to your family?
Seal of Approval in our house. (Eeek. Sorry !!!)
Well, the last of my own little pups lands back here tomorrow for the holidays, so I am signing off now until the New Year.
Have a great Christmas everyone!

Bananas wrapped in bacon with Christmas Dinner. Sounds grim, but in fact delicious....Have a Happy Christmas.
ReplyDeleteHope the snowflakes et al sold well.
The seals are lovely and their bodies remind me of how I'll look after all the Christmas food, must diet after.
ReplyDeleteHave a good one.
They are so beautiful, and look deceptively cuddly! In reality I imagine they are dripping wet, and smell of old fish!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Christmas, Cathy, xxx
Have a great Christmas and New Year.
ReplyDeleteLove the seals..
How wonderful to be able to see the seals! Our family tradition is to open one present on Christmas Eve - started when my son had been at the dentist and was feeling very sorry for himself (he was 5), so Santa said he could open one present for being a good brave boy!!
ReplyDeleteThese seals are awesome!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHope your Christmas and break is lovely
These seals are great, I sometimes go to the beach at Christmas time, Wells-next-to-the-sea is one of my faves.
ReplyDeleteChristmas wishes to you and yours.

Lovely photos, I wish I could get my children out of the house in the Christmas Holidays. Walks or Lego, Hmmmm. Are the seals at Wells beach?, I may try and use your lovely pics as persuasion. Have a lovely Christmas xxx
ReplyDeleteFor anyone local who wants to see them, the seals are at Horsey Gap near Winterton each year. Don't know why they choose that particular spot! Cathy x
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing tradition that is. There is nothing better than seeing animals in their natural habitat, and to see seals is such a treat. We do a boxing day walk, come rain or shine, all the family dogs in tow, nan with her stick and plenty of baskets for collecting mother natures treasure. Best way to work off some the christmas excess.
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely photos and what a great festive tradition.
