If I Ruled The World ....

.... Every day would be the first day of Spring!

And then I would blog everyday instead of hibernating for two months til the sun came out again. Sorry people!!
And today, here, is really the first day it has truly felt like Spring.  Glorious sunshine, milky blue skies, but still a bit nippy.  Not only did I emerge from beneath my quilt today, but I even ventured outdoors for a long walk and took this photo to prove it!

I have been having a well-earned break from the pottery, but the orders are starting to come in now, so I must get back in the studio and crack on.
I have not been completely pot-free though.  This is a plate I made for my lovely Aunty's 80th birthday in January. Regular readers know how much I enjoy making these, and it's all the more special when the person is someone close to you.

The wet clay stage - impressing lace flowers into the border.
Once fired, and glazing almost complete, ready for second firing.

And Hey Presto!  Out of the second firing and looking good.

My Aunty likes baking!

And Knitting
And staying in her caravan by the sea!

The seaside here is Bridlington on the East coast where I spent many a childhood summer holiday and so in turn did my children.
See!   I'm looking forward to Summer already, now that I've come out of hibernation!

Now - I shall pay a much belated visit to all your blogs to see what you've been up to.

x Cathy

They are so thrilled with it, it's the first thing you see when you walk through the front door. Catcha!Lx

  2. Welcome back Cathy!
I think your Auntie is going to love her plate, I love the design and all the personal bits you've included - and it's amazing how the colours come out after firing - thanks for showing how you go about making one, its fascinating.
We've had a gorgeous spring day here too, and I've managed to be outside either working in the garden or dog walking for most of it. Heaven!

  4. Hi there,

Thanks for your comment on my failed attempt post - I'm happy to tell you that actually, I am there! It has taken a couple of years and three attempts but I now have a place on a teacher training course and am still to be interviewed for another! I wrote a post about that on my other blog here -

    http://roachling.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/a-little-announcement.html

the post you read is a copy from that blog, from 2011 - I've just started the teacher training blog and am filling in bits from the past couple of years so I have a complete record of my journey. Soon I'll get on to waffling about this years successes and then I'll begin training later in the year :)

That's a lovely plate for your aunts birthday :)

No spring here yet in North Carolina. In fact, they are predicting a chance of snow this coming Wednesday.

  13. Welcome back, Cathie. I have been wondering where you went to. Glad to hear all is well.

Spring is shy about coming. We still keep the wood stove going at night. And there is the potential for more nasty weather in the near future.

  16. Can't wait for the days to get warmer and things coming to life in the garden. Your Aunty is going to love that plate. I'm always suprised how things look boring until the final glazing, and then.....bing.... they turn into a swan!!
